Coached for LSU, Giants, played DB, STs for Univ. of Houston

We have named Thomas McGaughey as our new special teams coordinator.

McGaughey comes from LSU, where he finished his third season as the Tigers' special teams coordinator. He helped them reach the BCS national title game in 2011, after helping the Giants win a Super Bowl, after the 2007 season, in four seasons as their assistant special teams coordinator.

Before that, he was with the Denver Broncos in 2005-06, the University of Houston in 2003-04, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe in '02. In 2001 he was a minority intern with the Chiefs and a pro scouting assistant with the Houston Texans.

McGaughey played DB for the Houston Cougars from 1991-95 and was the school's special teams captain as a senior. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and was on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad late in the 1996 season.

He takes the position on head coach Rex Ryan's staff that was vacated when Ben Kotwica moved to the Washington Redskins last month.
