The 8 Best Plays of the Preseason

With the Preseason Coming to a Close, We Reviewed the Tape to Determine Our Top Plays

Harris Sacks Hasselbeck: In the first quarter of the preseason opener, LB David Harris came untouched up the middle on a blitz for an easy sack of Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck – one of our three sacks on the night.


Furney’s Game Winner: With 1:08 left in regulation vs. Indy and with the scored tied at 10-10, rookie kicker Andrew Furney drilled home the go-ahead – and eventual game-winning – field goal on a booming 51-yard attempt.


IK’s Strip-Sack: The Colts got the ball back at their own 15-yard line, but rookie DE Ikemefuna Enemkpali quickly ended any thoughts of a game-winning drive with a strip-sack of the Colts QB. A.J. Edds recovered the fumble to seal the 13-10 win.


Vick Finds Gates: Down 17-16 in the beginning of the fourth at Cincinnati, QB Michael Vick found Clyde Gates on a wide receiver screen for the go-ahead 17-yard TD. Gates picked up a key block from rookie WR Quincy Enunwa, slithered through the defense and got in just inside the pylon.


Walls INT Seals Win: Holding onto a one-possession lead with seconds left in the fourth vs. the Bengals, CB Darrin Walls jumped an inside route and came up with the game-cementing INT as we held on for the 25-17 win.


Amaro Play-Action TD: On 1st-and-goal at the 1 in the MetLife Bowl, the entire stadium was thinking run with the Jets lined up in an I-formation with eight lineman. But QB Geno Smith executed a perfect play-action and found rookie TE Jace Amaro wide open in the back corner of the end zone for the game’s first TD.


Simms-Salas-Salsa: In the fourth quarter vs. the Giants, Matt Simms found WR Greg Salas over the middle for a 17-yard TD to put us up 24-21. The QB stole the show, however, with a salsa dance to celebrate – much to the delight of the referee.


Gates Comes Up With TD: Gates found the end zone for the second time of the preseason on a beautiful 42-yard deep ball from rookie QB Tajh Boyd at Philadelphia in the preseason finale. The ball bounced out of the hands of a defender before Gates hauled it in, giving Boyd his first professional TD pass.
