HS Coach of the Year: John Fiore, Montclair

Posted Dec 10, 2013

The New York Jets have announced that John Fiore of Montclair (NJ) High School has been named this year's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Year Award. For his efforts, he will receive $2,000 to benefit the school’s football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 18th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Coach Fiore is in his fourth season as head coach of the Mounties with a 42 -6 record. During this time he has led the team to four state sectional final appearances and has garnered two state sectional titles and three conference championships. Fiore was a three-year starter for the Montclair State University Red Hawks as a wide receiver, graduating with a degree in health and physical education. He also attained his M.A. in educational administration from Kean University.

On Saturday, Montclair defeated the Ridgewood Maroons, 33-0, for the North Jersey Section 1, Group 5 title at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford NJ. Montclair completed its second straight undefeated state championship season and won its sixth NJSIAA playoff title in program history. The 2012-13 Mounties are the school's first to win back-to-back titles since the advent of the playoff system in 1974 and will enter next season with a 24-game winning streak.
