HS Coach of the Week: Jay Price, Manasquan

Posted Oct 15, 2013

The New York Jets announced today that Jay Price of Manasquan (NJ) High School has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 18th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Coach Price is in his third season at the helm of the Warriors, leading them to two straight state playoff appearances in the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He served 16 years as an assistant coach on the Manasquan staff before taking the reins as the head coach. During this time, the Warriors won seven state section titles, in 1998-2002 and 2007-08. Price is an alumnus of Manasquan and played fullback and linebacker under legendary coach Vic Kubu.

Price went on to play football at Trenton State College for four years and was named captain during his senior season. He graduated college with a degree in history and is a history teacher at Manasquan High School. In addition to his coaching and teaching duties, he is also a lieutenant with Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company No. 1.

On Saturday, Manasquan defeated the Middletown South Eagles, 38-0, to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Warriors head on the road to face the Monmouth Regional Falcons on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m.
