HS Coach of the Week: Jamel Ramsay, Port Washington

Posted Oct 22, 2013

The New York Jets have announced that Jamel Ramsay of Port Washington (NY) High School has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 18th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Ramsay was a four-year player on Long Island University C.W. Post’s football team, serving as the captain during his senior season. After earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 2007, Ramsay started his coaching career as an assistant to the wide receivers coach at C.W. Post. He is in his third season at the helm of the Port Washington Vikings, with an overall record of 13-9. Away from the gridiron, Ramsay is the co-owner of a gym, Port Washington Fitness.

On Saturday, Port Washington defeated the previously unbeaten Roslyn Bulldogs, 21-7, to improve to 6-0 on the season. The Vikings will travel to Oyster Bay, NY, to face the St. Dominic Bayhawks on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
