Buccaneers Release Darrelle Revis

Posted Mar 12, 2014

Cornerback Darrelle Revis has been released by Tampa Bay, as reported on the Buccaneers' official website this afternoon. As a result, according to media reports we will now receive the Bucs’ fourth-round pick in this year’s draft rather than their third-round selection.

Revis, the five-time Pro Bowler, was originally drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the Jets in 2007 and went on to play his first six NFL seasons for the Green & White.

He sustained a season-ending knee injury in September 2012, and general manager John Idzik traded him to Tampa Bay the week of last year's NFL Draft for a 2013 first-round pick and a 2014 conditional fourth-rounder that reports said would have improved to a third-rounder if he were still on the Bucs' roster three days into the new league year.

That first-round selection turned into NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Sheldon Richardson, selected 13th overall last May.
