HS Coach of the Week: Dominic Longo, Bound Brook

Posted Sep 18, 2012

The New York Jets announced today that Dominic Longo of Bound Brook (N.J.) High School has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award.  For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 17th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Longo is in his second season as the head coach of the Crusaders. He previously served as the defensive coordinator for five years before ascending to his current position. He uses his 25 years of high school coaching experience to continually instruct kids on the fundamentals and proper techniques of playing football as a camp director with Pro Sports Experience Camps.

The former Bound Brook two-way lineman graduated from Bucknell University with a BA in economics. Longo retired from 25 years of dutiful service with the New Jersey State Police in 2010 and is in his second year of substitute teaching at his alma mater.

On Friday, the Crusaders improved to 2-0 by defeating the Dayton Bulldogs, 41-19, for the first time in three seasons. The Crusaders’ next game will be on the road Saturday, Sept. 22, when they face the Pingry Big Blue.
